One of the ways I've looked t this issue is to use an alternative pattern to judge whether we should invest on something which I like to call "contrast to invest", to help us answer questions like "is it worth the trouble" (so to speak)... And interesting enough, I was literally planning to further elaborate on it because I have recently realized the ovearching idea might come much more handy than the angle I have talked about before. The eventual post should "dialogue" quite well with yours, in fact.
