> Huxley was right, and Orwell was wrong.

Great books. All of them! Thanks for sharing.

I’m afraid both were bloody right. We’ve got no idea about loads of things that are going on as they’re very well hidden unless some whistleblower publishes them. E.g. Edward Snowden and the Panama papers.

Have you heard of the book the comfort crisis?

Ah, the premise of the book is that the more we make ourself comfortable, the less satisfaction we get, and the less tolerant we are of discomfort. This means that a minor inconvenience suddenly becomes a big discomfort.

I have noticed this in my own life especially around sleeping conditions. If my sleeping conditions are so comfortable and so consistent in my house, when I travel every where else is too hot, too loud, and all the beds are too hard. 🤷🏼‍♀️

The solution to recalibrate is fairly simple though. Tolerate some discomfort for a while and then things will seem comfortable and interesting again.

Mindfulness & critical thinking, ironically the things that make us more, but the things that are beyond our society.
